Elenara House Sustainable Rooming House Upgrade
A rooming house upgrade in St Kilda has improved the model of care for people at risk of homelessness, while reducing environmental injustice to climate change impacts and rising energy costs.
The $6.2m upgrade to Elenara House, a 110-year-old heritage-listed building, replaced shared facilities with 30 self-contained studio apartments – including two wheelchair accessible units – while also providing additional amenities for social group activities.
The upgrade incorporates an environmentally sustainable design, providing long-term savings on utility bills for residents and the service provider, and increased quality of life for tenants.
