Enable Social Enterprises
Greener Futures Employability Program
The impact of not having access to employment and training can be debilitating.
Unemployment is a major reason for poverty and poverty is the major cause of housing stress and homelessness.
Enable is an innovative not for profit organisation founded in September 2013 to tackle high unemployment in Melbourne’s north for highly disadvantaged community members.
As a social enterprise, Enable’s vision is a connected community without disadvantage. Their mission is to break unemployment cycles by enabling disadvantaged jobseekers to connect with community and improve prospects of participating in gainful employment through provision of supportive work and learning programs.
Enable provides employability skills programs including a strong focus on environmental skills that create paid work opportunities.
During 2016, Enable’s platform for social change delivered 1816 hours of employability skills to 66 participants most likely to experience barriers to employment to improve their chances of getting a job, and created 2308 paid work hours through enterprise trade, supporting local disadvantaged workers and economic development across Melbourne’s north.
