The Cape Sustainable Housing Precinct, Cape Paterson
The Cape was derived from a vision to uplift sustainability and resilience in Australian housing, through a collaboration with architects, designers, ethical investors and builders.
As well as building a scaled community of energy positive homes, The Cape’s developers have embedded a range of features to optimise environmental protection.
The result is an environmental net gain project that has taken steps to protect remnant vegetation and local wildlife – fencing sensitive zones, planting locally indigenous plants and registering as a Land for Wildlife property, with positive impacts on local flora and fauna.
In an effort to drive the greatest possible positive industry change, The Cape has open sourced all elements of the project to resource Victorians with information on how to build super-efficient, low running cost, carbon neutral housing.
With a thriving community garden, networks of walking and cycling paths, and great social media outreach, The Cape has already begun to mainstream climate adapted housing and communities that respect the natural environment.
