The Farmer’s Place

From Little Things Big Things Grow

The Farmer’s Place is a small working farm, cafe and farmers’ market located in Freshwater Creek, near the Great Ocean Road. On the property of 40 acres, visitors can see animals, vegetable gardens and orchards. Sustainability principles and processes drive all operations.

The cafe is made from recycled shipping containers and sustainable waste, water and energy practices are in place. The seasonal menu is inspired by what is growing in the garden and what can be sourced from local suppliers, and the onsite marketplace acts as a consolidated farm gate for local producers.

With a vision to be a local sustainability hub, The Farmer’s Place demonstrates sustainable business, promotes and supports local food production and enables people to reconnect with their food and where it comes from.

In 2016, managers introduced an environmental education program for schools, community and social group and also partnered with Sustainability Victoria to deliver the ResourceSmart Schools program for the Barwon South Western Region, engaging with 60 schools.
